Drug NameCyklokapron (Tranexamic acid)
Drug UsesThis medication is used for short-term control of bleeding in hemophiliacs, including dental extraction procedures.
How TakenTake exactly as directed. Dosage is generally two to four times daily by mouth. Length of treatment is based on your condition and response.
Drug Class and MechanismThis acts against breakdown of clots (by inhibiting or stopping plasminogen activation and fibrinolysis), and so it is useful in stopping severe blood loss as it increases clot formation.
Missed DoseIf you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
StorageStore at room temperature between 36 and 86 degrees F (2-30 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
Warnings/PrecautionsBefore using this drug, tell your doctor your medical history, including: any allergies, history of blood clots or bleeding, eye problems (retina/color vision), kidney disease, head injury (subarachnoid hemorrhage). Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this drug. This drug is excreted into human milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy.
If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
